There are a few things that happen in life which you will remember for a long long time, others will have an amazing impact on your life in ways which won’t show themselves until later on. For me two big examples of this I can put down to books. Two books that had such an effect on me that they changed my outlook on life and to a degree who I am as a person.
The first of these books is quite well known and I first read after my Dad recommended it to me when I was just 13. At the time I couldn’t take in all that this book had to offer but when I re-read it at about 17-18 years old, it taught me so much about how to deal with people. The book i’m talking about is the famous “How To Win Friends And Influence People” By Dale Carnegie. This book is invaluable for anyone who has to talk to people as part of their jobs but more than that it teaches you so much human psychology and their feeling of importance. I re-read this book usually at least a couple of times a year to keep the theories fresh in my mind and trying to force them into habits. In my opinion this book teaches more about Human nature and how to talk to people much more than any school class ever could. In my Britain this book would be part of every schools curriculum. The second book that changed my way of looking at life but more importantly work I stumbled upon much later in life but it had just as big an effect as Dale Carnegie’s masterpiece above. This book is “The 4 Hour Work Week” By Tim Ferriss. He opens up a whole new world of work possibilities, shows you how Time is equal to if not more important than money, and what you can do with this new lease of live can be remarkable and in some instances unbelievable. What stuck out to me though is he doesn’t promise to tell you the ‘secrets’ to this lifestyle but more importantly tells you how it can be achieved and throughout the book invites you to take steps to embrace this lifestyle. I have the paperback, the kindle version and the audio book, and i have read/listened to each version at least once and each time I pick up something else out of his writing. Once again you can find out more this fantastic book here: The 4-Hour Work Week: Escape the 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich
So they are my two favourite books that have made me who I am today. I have created a page “Dave’s Bookshelf” which you can find here, where you can find other books I have read and strongly recommend. There are only a few there at the minute but I will be adding more there shortly.
I have shared with you my two favourite books and now I want your help. I am looking for books that YOU would recommend, books that have changed your outlook on life or which have helped you in any way at all be who you are today. I’d love to hear from you and find out what else is out there. Please leave any recommendations in the comments below.
I look forward to hearing from you
