Spring Fair 2013 – Will I See You There?

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Have you ever heard of the Spring Fair before?  I hadn’t until a good friend of mine was asked to speak at the 2013 event, and that’s when I looked into it more.  If you havent seen, been or heard of it before you can find out more here: SpringFair.com

For me it is a good excuse to get away from the computer, support a friend and also hopefully meet some of the people who read this blog face to face.  I have already had a few emails asking If I would be attending.  So the answer is yes I will be at Spring Fair only on Monday 4th February and I will be there most of the day.  I will be available on Twitter most of the day so feel free to tweet me @Dave_Furness and we can hopefully meet up.

If you come to this site then chances are you are interested in e-commerce, if this is the case and you are at Spring Fair on Monday, then you really need to head over to the Fashion Catwalk at 3:00 pm to hear the brilliant Matthew Ogborne from Lastdropofink demystify the market place websites, and how they can act as dynamite for your business.  This is a must for anyone currently selling on marketplaces or thinking about taking the leap into e-commerce if they haven’t already.

Spring Fair looks to be a great event.  I have also been given orders from the other half to find the Yankee Candle exhibit, hopefully I can get Valentines day wrapped up at this event too 😀

Have a great weekend and hopefully see you Monday

A New Look For 2013

2013 Update

As you can probably tell if you are a regular visitor davefurness.co.uk got a face lift for Christmas.  I had chopped and changed the old theme from time to time but had to realise that I am no web designer so bit the bullet and upgraded the site to what you see now, a new look for 2013.  There is still some more tweaking to come but these will be little changes which won’t impact the site too much.

This post is also a bit of a test for me as there are lots of features with the new site regarding pictures, slider and loads of other things.  Such as the random pic of me above from a recent trip to Finland.

News

Back to business then, 2013 is looking to be a great year for e-commerce.  It has been a couple of busy news weeks already this year with Jessops, HMV and Blockbuster all having to call in the administrators.  All of these businesses have been around much longer than I have, but I still think a large reason for their sad demise is their inability to move with the times.  They were slow to react to the changing times in retail and it’s relationship with e-commerce.  Plenty of businesses are thriving in the current e-commerce climate, however currently the market is changing very quickly and adapting to these changes in both customers behaviour and market trends.

In other news Play.com is shutting down its retail division and focusing solely on its marketplace offering, and looking to expand this.  After being bought by Rakutan last year they definitely have he backing to give it a good go, but whether they will ever be in a position to challenge the mighty eBay will remain to be seen.  Lets not forget eBay is also having a major facelift to the UK site at the early part of this year so it will be interesting to see how the public take to that.  I know a lot of my fellow e-commerce peers are looking forward to it and think it is just the dynamic injection that eBay needs.

Coming Up

I have an interesting post coming up soon aswell looking at mobile marketing.  If you remember this is something that I flagged in my post on 2013 predictions (which you can find here!) as being something to look out for this year…I think I may have been right, but more about that soon.

I hope you all have a great successful 2013, as always feel free to contact me by pressing this swish button here (Sorry more gadgets)  [button text=”Contact Me!” type=”link” size=”medium” rounded=”true” link=”http://www.davefurness.co.uk/contact-dave-furness” target=”_blank” color=”orange” ] (+1 for nice shiny button)

So long 2012 – It has been fun

This post is going to be a step away from the normal in that it is more for me than you.  I am writing this as for me 2012 is the year when a lot of changes happened for me professionally and I want to be able to look back at this year and say…”this is where it all started”  Read more

eBay Listings – The Fun Way!

Last week we all had a laugh at the funny eBay feedback replies that one seller had left for all of the negative feedbacks left on their account.  If you missed it you can see it here.  This week I’m sharing with you some funny eBay listings.

To carry on this trend on the run up to Christmas and the end of 2012, to avoid any hard reading or over serious topics I am going to keep this post lighthearted too.  As the title suggests I am going to share with you some fantastic eBay listings Read more

Replying to eBay Feedback – The Fun Way!

I know that for you online sellers chances are this is the busiest time for you, stress levels may be running high as you strive to keep everything ticking over to the high demand.  Which is why I thought I would share with you something to hopefully make you smile.  We all know what a pain eBay feedback can be sometimes.  Unfortunately eBay feedback is a necessary evil to keep sellers in line with desired service levels.

Selling on eBay comes with its challenges which I and many others have well documented over the years.  Unfortunately there are some “crazies/serial neggers” about which no matter how good your listing is, your item won’t meet their high expectations and as such you will get a neg left.  Now there have been a lot of different things said about whether you should or shouldn’t bother replying to negative feedback.  If you can’t get it revised then I personally think you should reply and be humble and apologise and give a reason as long as it is valid and not just a poor excuse.

Now what I am going to show you is hilarious. Read more
